The duration of intrathecal bupivacaine mixed with lidocaine.
Abstract: Although spinal bupivacaine may have too long duration to be useful in the ambulatory setting, recent animal data suggest that lidocaine added to spinal bupivacaine may reduce the duration of bupivacaine spinal anesthesia. We explored whether lidocaine added...

Oxygen therapy in stroke: past, present, and future.
Abstract: Oxygen is frequently administered to patients with suspected stroke. However, the role of oxygen therapy in ischemic stroke remains controversial in light of the failure of three clinical trials of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to show efficacy, and the fear of...
Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning alleviates myocardial ischemic injury in rats.
Abstract: It has been shown that after ischemia-reperfusion, application of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) reduces cardiac injury. In this study we tested the hypothesis that HBO preconditioning reduces injury to the ischemic myocardium. One hundred and eight adult male...
Expanded adipose-derived stem cells for the treatment of complex perianal fistula including Crohn’s disease
In patients without Crohn’s disease, surgery is the mainstay treatment but faecal incontinence and recurrence are high. Infliximab is used in Crohn’s patients but not all respond to therapy. Objective: After an evaluation of the current treatment options, we discuss studies of adipose-derived stem cell (ASC) therapy, a novel approach for treating complex perianal fistulas.
Methods: ASCs are obtained from a liposuction procedure and a subsequent expansion process. They are administered according to a strict protocol which involves infusion of the cells into the target lesion along with fibrin glue.
Radionecrosis induced by cardiac imaging procedures: a case study of a 66-year-old diabetic male with several comorbidities.
Abstract: Radionecrosis is a rare sequitur of cardiac catheterization and imaging procedures. A 66-year-old diabetic male with several comorbidities developed a scapular burn immediately after the last of 3 cardiac catheterization and stenting procedures conducted...

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for late radiation tissue injury in gynaecological patients.
Abstract: Pelvic radiation therapy is an important element of curative therapy for gynaecological cancers. Serious radiation-related complications developing months or years after treatment are known as late radiation tissue injury (LRTI). We investigated the possible...
