Systemic air embolism causing acute stroke and myocardial infarction after percutaneous transthoracic lung biopsy – a case report.
Abstract: The air embolism in this case was likely to have been caused by positioning the patient in a prone position, which was associated with the lesion to be biopsied being at a maximum height over the left atrium. Due to the resulting negative pressure, air...
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy stimulates colonic stem cells and induces mucosal healing in patients with refractory ulcerative colitis: a prospective case series.
Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is used as part of treatment in a variety of clinical conditions. Its use in the treatment of ulcerative colitis has been reported in few clinical reports. We report the effect of HBO on refractory ulcerative colitis exploring one potential mechanism of action. A review of records of patients with refractory ulcerative colitis who received HBO was conducted. Clinical and histopathological scoring was utilised to evaluate the response to HBO therapy (HBOT). All patients manifested clinical improvement by the 40th cycle of HBOT. The median number of stool frequency dropped from seven motions/day (range=3-20) to 1/day (range=0.5-3), which was significant (z=-4.6, p<0.001).

Nrf2/antioxidant defense pathway is involved in the neuroprotective effects of Sirt1 against focal cerebral ischemia in rats after hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning.
Abstract: Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1) is a class III histone deacetylase involved in neuroprotection induced by hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning (HBO-PC) in animal models of ischemia. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be illustrated. In the present study, rats...

The Mechanism of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the Treatment of Chronic Wounds and Diabetic Foot Ulcers.
Abstract: Non-healing wounds are a growing public health concern, and more than $25 billion per year in the US are spent caring for patients with chronic wounds. Many of these patients are referred to specialized wound centers, where hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2T)...
Radiotherapy using IMRT boosts after hyperbaric oxygen therapy with chemotherapy for glioblastoma.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of radiotherapy (RT) using intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) boosts after hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy with chemotherapy in patients with glioblastoma. Twenty-four patients with...
Hyperbaric Oxygen Alleviates Secondary Brain Injury After Trauma Through Inhibition of TLR4/NF-κB Signaling Pathway.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen in secondary brain injury after trauma and its mechanism in a rat model. A rat model of TBI was constructed using the modified Feeney's free-fall method, and 60 SD rats were randomly...
MRI of brain tissue oxygen tension under hyperbaric conditions.
Abstract: The brain depends on a continuous supply of oxygen to maintain its structural and functional integrity. This study measured T1 from MRI under normobaric air, normobaric oxygen, hyperbaric air, and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) conditions as a marker of tissue pO2...
