Recent Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) News
Syndrome of uremic encephalopathy and bilateral basal ganglia lesions in non-diabetic hemodialysis patient: a case report.
Abstract: Uremic encephalopathy (UE), a toxic metabolic encephalopathy, is an uncommon complication resulting from endogenous uremic toxins in patients with severe renal failure. UE syndrome can range from mild inattention to coma. The imaging...
The effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for healing chronic venous leg ulcers: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Abstract: Over 30% of venous leg ulcers do not heal despite evidence-based treatment. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) as an adjunct treatment for nonhealing venous leg ulcers. A randomized,...

Magnesium intake and depression in adults
Abstract Background:Â Depression is a common and often disabling disorder. Magnesium supplementation has been linked to improvement in depressive symptoms, but consensus on the relationship between magnesium and depression has not been reached....
Synergistic effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy with PTH [1-34] on calvarial bone graft in irradiated rat.
Abstract: To determine the synergistic effect of parathyroid hormone (PTH) [1-34] in combination with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on bone graft in a rat calvarial bone defect model under impaired osteogenic conditions. Twenty-four rats were divided...
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Alzheimer’s Disease.
Recent studies indicate that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a well-established therapy for decompression illness, could be a potential therapy for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, due to oxygen toxicity i.e., increased oxidative stress implicated in HBOT, the risk and benefit of HBOT for AD patients need to be further assessed clinically.
Modelling of ciprofloxacin killing enhanced by hyperbaric oxygen treatment in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 biofilms.
Abstract: In chronic lung infections by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) the bacteria thrive in biofilm structures protected from the immune system of the host and from antibiotic treatment. Increasing evidence suggests that the susceptibility of the...
Positive effects of neurofeedback on autism symptoms correlate with brain activation during imitation and observation
Abstract Autism has been characterized by atypical task-related brain activation and functional connections, coinciding with deficits in sociocommunicative abilities. However, evidence of the brain's experience-dependent plasticity suggests that...
Ulcerated Necrobiosis Lipoidica.
A 23-year-old Caucasian female, with type I diabetes mellitus, presented with a 7-month history of two painful yellowish-red plaques with ulcerated centre in the left leg. A diagnosis of ulcerated necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) was made and she was started on pentoxifylline 400 mg tid and tacrolimus ointment 0.1%. After four months of treatment with no improvement, the patient was proposed for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Overall, she received a total of 30 sessions of HBOT, after which the wounds healed completely. There have been no recurrences in the 14 months following resolution.
